How to get the best Myrtle Beach rental experience:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserve your Myrtle Beach vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your family choose dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Spacious Oceanfront Villa! Private Beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
