Rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Book your Myrtle Beach vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the best vacation home:
- First, have your group agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Spectacular OCEAN VIEWS - Fabulous South Hampton 3rd floor unit - Updated has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
