Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking your Myrtle Beach vacation home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Surfside Beach Home w\/ Shared Pool: Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
