Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your Search:
- To start, have your family select date ranges and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Updated One Bedroom Condo- Boardwalk Resort Unit 837 - Direct Oceanfront! Sleeps 8! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
