Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. WOW Largest SUN DECK in Myrtle\/ End unit\/Brand new 1BR has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
