Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Myrtle Beach. Book your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Finding the perfect rental:
- To start, have your family select vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Charming Gateway in OF 3 BR Condo 15th Floor has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach destination you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
