Strategies for getting the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your search:
- To start, have your group commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. 18th-floor ocean-view studio with pool, hot tub, AC & WiFi - snowbird-friendly has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If not, email the property owner before you book the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
