Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 6th Floor Oceanfront Snowbird Friendly Condo w\/ AC, Shared Pool\/Hot Tub, WiFi has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
