Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Myrtle Beach vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the perfect vacation home in the Myrtle Beach area:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Arcadian I 6B - Myrtle Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Myrtle Beach destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
