Tricks and tips to get the best Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. HUGE DISCOUNTS FOR AUGUST DATES - PICK ME- CHOOSE ME -LOVE ME has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a particular Myrtle Beach attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
