Strategies to get the best rental experience:
When to reserve a Myrtle Beach rental home & When to go:
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your family select a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Beautifully Renovated 1 BR Condo-Stunning Ocean Views- Ocean Forest 801 has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If not, email or call the host before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
