Booking the best rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- To find the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Choosing and booking the rightvacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Cozy Up at Caravelle
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property manager before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
