Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Getting the best value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Myrtle Beach. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Dog friendly home near beach & golf, Pool\/Hot tub has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is best for your group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
