Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Get the most from your budget:
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. 4th Floor Ocean View Paradise with Amenities has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
