Rental booking tips:
Getting the best rental value:
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Reserve your vacation in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group select the best dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 4BR oceanfront, 8th fl, big balcony in Ocean Reef has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach attraction you are crazy about, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
