How to get the best Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the best value, try changing your family's Myrtle Beach vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 4BR oceanfront, 8th fl, big balcony in Ocean Reef has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, email the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
