Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Getting the most from your budget:
- To get the best rental home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Large Family Friendly Condo - Steps to the Beach! Close to Attractions! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
