Our top Vacation rental tips:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Filter your search:
- First, have your group decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Gorgeous Oceanfront 1BR Pools in Monterey Bay! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
