Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the best value, change your family's Myrtle Beach vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront South Wind Unit 706: Spacious 5-Bedroom Condo in Myrtle Beach has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
