Getting the best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting the best vacation home in Myrtle Beach:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Beach House Captains Cove 3 BD, 2 BA, Golfcart & Linens included, Lanai on Canal has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
