How to find the best rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Myrtle Beach vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group choose dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oceanfront 2 Bedroom Penthouse! Sand Dunes 1232 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before reserving your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Myrtle Beach attraction you simply love, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
