Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family select trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront 3 Bedroom Condo! Sleeps 10 Guests! Compass Cove Mariner Tower 1216 has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
