How to book the best Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in Myrtle Beach. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking your Myrtle Beach rental:

  • Choose your dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanfront Luxury Four Bedroom Condo 16th Floor has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
