Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and choose the best Myrtle Beach vacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. One Bedroom in a 57 Acre Oceanfront Resort + Official On-Site Rental Privileges has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your contract.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas during check in. Call the host right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
