Strategies for getting the best vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. message the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective.
