Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Whatever It Takes has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is right for your group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
More tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
