Strategies for getting the perfect Myrtle Beach rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your Myrtle Beach vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the best rental home in Myrtle Beach:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Whatever It Takes has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges applied to your contract.
- If there's a particular Myrtle Beach beach you love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
