Getting the best Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:
When to book a Myrtle Beach rental home & When to go:
- Summer time is high season in Myrtle Beach. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting the best vacation rental in Myrtle Beach:
- First, have your group commit to trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Relaxing Mediterranean style home w\/hot tub, 2 golf carts, private beach access has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
