Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the most suitable rental for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the perfect vacation home:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spacious Condo on Shore Drive has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. Call the host immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
