Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Get the best value:
- Summertime is high season in Myrtle Beach. To find the best value, change your family's Myrtle Beach vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many property management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Pelican's Watch Unit 210 - Ocean view has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
