Tips and Tricks to get the best Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer is high season in Myrtle Beach. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Tropical Retreat 2nd Floor Oceanfront Room has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
