Getting the best Myrtle Beach rental home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. 15th-floor ocean-view studio with AC, pool, hot tub & gym - snowbird-friendly has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
