Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Myrtle Beach. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family commit to trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Fall Deals-Oceanviews-Large Balconies-Steps 2 Beach-Kingston Plantation-Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Myrtle Beach attraction you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
