Strategies to get the perfect rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your group choose a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Brand new! 3 bdr\/2ba Steps from waterpark has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
