Rental booking tips:
Getting the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Myrtle Beach attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the best vacation home in Myrtle Beach:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Beach Access
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
