How to get the best rental home experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beachside Delight Suite with Stunning View 7th Flr has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
