Strategies to get the very best rental home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the largest vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Beautiful ocean view condo with full access to all resort amenities!! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
