Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the largest rental for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Myrtle Beach restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the best rental in the Myrtle Beach area:
- Choose dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. COZY BEACH RETREAT Super Close to Lake and Quick Walk to Beach - BOOK NOW! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is right for your family.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
