Strategies for getting the best rental home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking your Myrtle Beach vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- To start, have your family agree to dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Cozy cottage 2 bedroom, 2 full bathroom. Porch, WiFi and Golf cart included. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email the host before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
