Tricks and tips to get the perfect Myrtle Beach rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To book the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Myrtle Beach attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Cozy cottage 2 bedroom, 2 full bathroom. Porch, WiFi and Golf cart included. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. Otherwise, email the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
During your stay:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
