Tricks and tips to get the optimal Myrtle Beach vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Myrtle Beach rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- To start, have your group commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. D04A Periwinkle Dr;5Br\/3Ba; Outdoor Bar; 2min walk to beach; OL Pools\/Arcade has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
