Strategies to get the optimal rental home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Myrtle Beach. To book the largest rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to choose the best vacation rental:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Great 2 BR on the ocean - Oceans One 908 has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
