Strategies for getting the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summer time is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking a perfect Myrtle Beach rental:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Anderson Ocean Club, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club - 2 Bedroom Oceanfront has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
