A Breezy Atlantic Coast Escape
It’s no surprise that families appreciate visiting Myrtle Beach. Sun, white sand and boardwalk games are hard not to appreciate. Deciding where to stay? That can be a bit trickier. Staying right on the beach gives you marvelous vistas but oftentimes a smaller (and sometimes noisier) room. Staying further inland requires some driving back and forth, but gives you more room to spread out as a family.

Our top Myrtle Beach rental home tips and tricks:
When to book a Myrtle Beach rental & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental:
- To start, have your group commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Enjoy Family & Friends in a 2BD resort condo lots of amenities onsite including lazy river has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
