Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to go & When to book:
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Myrtle Beach area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your search:
- Select vacation dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Kingston Plantation - 2 BR - Ground Floor, Lake View has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you book your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach destination you crave, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
