Strategies to get the optimal rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to select the best vacation rental:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Lazy Willow Condo in Myrtle Beach, with a short drive to the beach! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
