Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer time is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to choose the perfect rental:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. MAGGIE'S PLACE - 200 YARDS TO THE BEACH LOCATED IN AN OCEANFRONT FAMILY RESORT has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
