Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Get the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. NEW! Coastal Retreat
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
