Tips to get the optimal Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, shift your family's Myrtle Beach vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation home:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. New! Penthouse w\/ Best View in Resort - by Luxury Beach Rentals has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
