Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Myrtle Beach rental home & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Myrtle Beach vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and pick the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation home:
- Start by having your group select vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanview 3BR Condo - 16th Floor - Spacious Floor Plan and Incredible Views! - Sand Dunes 1603 has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If not, contact the host before you book the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
