Vacation rental booking tips:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

Selecting and booking yourvacation home:

  • Start by choosing your a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Charming Condo Steps Away From Indoor Pool B437 at The Myrtle Beach Resort has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
