Strategies for getting the perfect rental home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • To find the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Suite with Beautiful Ocean Front View has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
