Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental home tips:
When to visit & When to reserve a Myrtle Beach rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Selecting the best rental home:
- First, have your family select trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Family Friendly Condo- Beautiful Views of the Pool, Courtyard and Ocean! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's an individual Myrtle Beach attraction you crave, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
